1. BeaconEDU Services
BeaconEDU provides software and related services that may include:
- Emergency alerts and school-safety communications.
- Incident activation, coordination, command, documentation, and reporting.
- Staff, classroom, student, and visitor accountability.
- Parent and guardian communications by SMS, email, push notification, voice, or other enabled channels.
- Parent reunification, guardian verification, pickup authorization, student retrieval, and chain-of-custody workflows.
- School, district, campus, user, device, map, roster, and notification administration.
- Training, implementation, support, maintenance, customization, and related services.
Features may vary by subscription, organization, platform, device, configuration, geographic location, or development status.
2. Eligibility and Authorized Use
BeaconEDU is intended for subscribing educational organizations, authorized personnel, approved contractors, and other users granted access by an authorized organization.
You may use BeaconEDU only:
- For legitimate school safety, educational, operational, administrative, and communication purposes.
- Within the scope of your assigned role and permissions.
- In compliance with these Terms, the Acceptable Use Policy, organizational policies, and applicable law.
3. Accounts and Credentials
Users must provide accurate account information and protect usernames, passwords, tokens, pairing codes, devices, and other authentication credentials.
You may not share an individually assigned account except where BeaconEDU expressly supports an authorized shared-station or substitute-operator workflow.
Users and organizations must promptly report suspected unauthorized access, lost devices, compromised credentials, or other security concerns.
4. Organizational Responsibilities
Subscribing organizations are responsible for:
- Determining which users may access the platform and assigning appropriate roles.
- Maintaining accurate staff, student, guardian, emergency-contact, roster, pickup-authorization, and organizational information.
- Establishing and following emergency, accountability, evacuation, reunification, communication, and safety procedures.
- Obtaining any consent, authorization, or legal basis required to provide information to BeaconEDU.
- Obtaining communication consent where required and respecting recipient preferences and opt-outs.
- Reviewing the content, audience, timing, and appropriateness of communications before sending them.
- Training users and ensuring that the platform is used consistently with organizational policy and applicable law.
- Maintaining suitable internet, electricity, device, notification, and operational redundancy.
5. Emergency Services Disclaimer
Users and organizations remain responsible for contacting emergency services and following official emergency procedures whenever appropriate.
A message, alert, acknowledgement, status, map, delivery record, or automated result should not be treated as proof that every intended person received, read, understood, or acted upon the information.
6. Communications Services
BeaconEDU may enable authorized organizations to send communications to staff, parents, guardians, emergency contacts, and other authorized recipients.
The subscribing organization and sending user are responsible for message content, recipient selection, legal authority, consent, and compliance with applicable communications requirements.
SMS Terms
SMS messages may include emergency alerts, school closures, schedule changes, delayed openings, early dismissals, transportation updates, weather notices, attendance notices, event reminders, safety information, reunification instructions, administrative announcements, and related school communications.
- Message frequency varies.
- Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to opt out of SMS messages.
- Reply HELP for assistance.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Opting out of SMS may prevent the recipient from receiving important text notifications. The recipient should contact the applicable school or district to discuss other available communication methods.
Consent to receive SMS messages is not a condition of purchasing BeaconEDU services as an individual consumer.
Email Communications
Email messages must use accurate sender and subject information and may not be deceptive or misleading.
Organizations must honor applicable email preferences and withdrawal requests.
7. Customer Data
As between BeaconEDU and a subscribing organization, the subscribing organization retains its rights in the information it provides to or generates through the platform, subject to these Terms and the applicable subscription agreement.
The organization grants BeaconEDU permission to host, process, transmit, back up, display, and otherwise use customer data as necessary to provide, secure, support, and improve the contracted services.
BeaconEDU does not acquire ownership of school or district data merely because that data is processed through the service.
8. Privacy
Use of BeaconEDU is also governed by the BeaconEDU Privacy Policy .
Subscribing organizations remain responsible for their own privacy notices, policies, consents, records-management decisions, and compliance obligations.
9. Acceptable Use
Users must comply with the BeaconEDU Acceptable Use Policy .
BeaconEDU may investigate suspected misuse and may restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to protect users, organizations, recipients, the platform, or the public.
10. Third-Party Services
BeaconEDU may depend on third-party hosting, telecommunications, SMS, email, mobile operating systems, app stores, mapping, internet, cloud, authentication, and other services.
Third-party services may experience delays, interruptions, filtering, blocking, configuration changes, or outages beyond BeaconEDU's reasonable control.
Additional third-party terms may apply to the organization's use of those services.
11. Service Availability and Changes
BeaconEDU will use commercially reasonable efforts to operate and maintain the platform, but does not guarantee that the service will always be available, error-free, secure, timely, or compatible with every device, network, browser, operating system, or third-party service.
BeaconEDU may modify, improve, replace, discontinue, or restrict features when reasonably necessary for security, compliance, supportability, product development, or operational reasons.
12. Fees and Payment
Subscription, implementation, training, maintenance, customization, communication, carrier, usage, and other fees are governed by the applicable proposal, order, subscription agreement, invoice, or other written agreement.
Usage-based SMS, email, voice, or other communications charges may be passed through to the subscribing organization as stated in the applicable agreement.
13. Intellectual Property
BeaconEDU and its licensors retain all rights in the platform, source code, applications, website, designs, workflows, documentation, trademarks, logos, training materials, and other proprietary content.
These Terms do not grant permission to copy, sell, sublicense, publish, reverse engineer, or create derivative products from BeaconEDU except as expressly authorized in writing or permitted by applicable law.
14. Feedback
If a user or organization voluntarily provides product suggestions, BeaconEDU may use that feedback without restriction or compensation, provided BeaconEDU does not publicly identify confidential customer information without authorization.
15. Suspension and Termination
BeaconEDU may suspend or terminate access when reasonably necessary because of:
- A violation of these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy.
- A security threat or suspected compromise.
- Illegal, fraudulent, abusive, or dangerous activity.
- Unpaid amounts under an applicable agreement.
- A legal, regulatory, carrier, or third-party service requirement.
- Termination or expiration of the organization's subscription.
16. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BeaconEDU is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis, except for any express warranties stated in a separate written agreement.
BeaconEDU disclaims implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and any warranty arising from course of dealing or usage of trade, to the extent permitted by law.
17. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, BeaconEDU will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, exemplary, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost revenue, profits, goodwill, data, or business opportunities arising from or related to the service.
Any aggregate liability will be subject to the limitations stated in the applicable written subscription or service agreement. Where no separate limitation applies, BeaconEDU's aggregate liability will not exceed the fees paid for the affected service during the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, to the extent permitted by law.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations, so portions of this section may not apply.
18. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by law, an organization agrees to defend, indemnify, and hold BeaconEDU harmless from third-party claims arising from the organization's unlawful use of the platform, unauthorized data, unlawful communications, violation of recipient rights, or violation of these Terms, except to the extent caused by BeaconEDU's own unlawful conduct.
19. Governing Agreements and Law
A separately executed subscription, licensing, data-processing, or services agreement controls if it conflicts with these online Terms.
Applicable governing law and dispute terms may be specified in that separate agreement. Otherwise, disputes will be governed by applicable law without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
20. Changes to These Terms
BeaconEDU may update these Terms as the service and legal requirements evolve.
The Effective Date will be updated when revised Terms are published. Continued use after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance to the extent permitted by law.
